I like the idea of building more industrialized cities in Siberia. It's kind of a blank slate and it would be interesting to see what happen. If the government provides some economic incentives then I think some people will moves but a mass exodus to Siberia just sounds ridiculous.Things like this take a long time. Rome wasn't built in a day

@ Maksim
I really think that the Russian Federation could collapse someday soon.
I can definatly see chechenya and the northern caucasus breaking away from Russia.

Cyber-Yak, you don't seem aware of the present status quo in the Kavkaz. I was in MinVody, Kabardino-Balkariya and Northern Ossetiya three years ago. The area will NOT secede in the near decades. The local elites have been VERY successfully co-opted into the Moscow power structure. I saw a great big arch in Nalchik that had just been built which had 'To Eternal Friendship With Russia' written on it. A mere gesture, you might say, but it at least means that the provincial Cherkess rulers are anxious to demonstrate their loyalty to the centre. Ramzan Kadyrov in Chechnya is very comfortable working with his partners in the Kremlin, too. He must be a multi-millionnaire from it all now. Indeed, Russian nationalists often express their discontent at these sort of partnerships. The terrorists are largely ineffectual frustrated nobodies, without any real substantial political force. THey are a nuisance, that is all. For now, at least.

Then why are there terrorist attacks almost weekly in dagestan, ingushetia. A lot of these people have turned to violent islam. They want to break away from moscow and make a Kavkaz islamic Emirate. These people don't like Russians and don't see them selfs as Russian anyways. Why would chechens like Moscow after the Russian army left Grozny in ruins.

Look up the difference between 'some', 'all', 'most' and 'a few'.
One mentalist with a gun can rather distract you from a few hundred market traders and fruit gardeners.
