We can make many theoretical discussions here and many blah, blah, blah. But we have to recognize the sacrifice of Soviet people, especially the Russian people in the victory against Germany. Their sacrifice was enormous and all those simple people who fought in terrible condition a bloody war deserve the highest respect. They really suffered a lot.

Westerners gave weapons to Soviets which in turn sent the Russians to death against the German war machine. Russians lost 20 million people. It's crazy.

If USSR was friend of the western democratic world, technically they should have declared war against Nazis on Sept. 3 and directly attack the German forces. Yet they didn't. However, GB-France still didn't bother to see the USSR as enemy. I think Soviets were opportunist. Soviets can't be blamed for what they were however it seems GB-France were hypocrites.

You have to read the diplomatic efforts in the years preceding the war. All the combinations of the possibile alliances were tried. You have a problem in your reasoning. You put at the same level tactics with strategy.

The Russians didn't send their men in war because this was asked to them by westerners. They defended their country.

the fact is that the soviets signed a non-combat agreement with the japanese and honored it for the entire war, (until the US nuked them and the japs surrendered). The soviets were also allies with hitler (like italy) until hitler stabbed stalin in the back
