I play videogames since late 80s. Actually I play mostly adventures / hack n' slash / strategy / shooters. But I noticed that in these last years I have less patience than before, no more hardcore competitions in multiplayer, I can't stand no more the little nerds* who play 24h / 24h that you may find when playing in multiplayer, now I play exclusively in single player. I've also totally lost any interest in mmorpgs; I've been a skilled World of Warcraft player for 7 years, I played it almost every day for 7 years; now I just can't imagine to play it again, spending hours to organize and finish a Raid, trying to explain to a bunch of little nerds the strategies to kill that or that other boss. I prefere to play at my pace without annoying interferences.

Perhaps. I've never been much of a video game geek. The only video game console I've ever had and owned was a Sega Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) in the early 90's. On the the other hand, I used to own more than 30 Fighting Fantasy books (single-player role-playing gamebooks).

lol yeah videogames for small children is an hilarious theory that only people who have never played videogames can think of.

most videogames are playable for people above the age of 12 , excluding younger ones with an higher intelligence, as younger kids would have trouble resolving some dilemmas and understanding the story ... heck adult players have trouble too!
while i think the ideal age to play a videogame is probably around 16 it doesnt mean an adult cant enjoy them.

many videogames contain bad language, nudity , sex and questionable morals of the protagonist , like in the saintsrow/gta series, which in my opinion would be appropriate to play for an audience that is at least adolescent.

Everyone can read a book or watch a movie. Watching a dumb person playing a tactical RPG or RTS feels like watching a rat in a maze. So much for the books' superior cognitive engagement.

As a child, when I was five years old, I remember that I used to play Diablo and Red Alert (which was released when I was a six year old, though), since then, I've finished most games worthy of attention. The best one of all times for me is Baldur's gate 2, and I even consider BG2 to be the best cultural work ever done.

BG2 was my introduction to The Forgotten Realms lore. Made me want to buy BG1, but I couldn't find it anyway, until I found a special edition that was bugged. Later I bought a non-bugged version, but I lost interest now. I know they've been re-realised with added content.

The oldest game I still return to is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri from 1999.
