I will say this...the Somali word for yogurt has Turkish origins. We call it "Ceer" (pronounced like 'ear'). Is from the Turkish "Ayran"

Most in my city view Turks in the same light as other Caucasian people as long as they aren't one of the darker ones, and they differentiate them a bit from Arabs. I feel most places in the Midwest US however would not, my city just has a large Southern Russian, and Turkish population.

Turks were a military elite, that's normal. You have similar words even in Croatian such as some Turkish military titles used as family names.
