Seems like a difficult task. I would guess there are a lot of genetic similarities and overlap. The difference between the two might be more cultural and linguistic than genetic. I'd be impressed if they could make the distinction.

Kind of like how the Normans conquered England changing the local language and culture but without changing much of the genetics of the local population.

I don’t think North Germanics have much if any Celtic ancestry, and that is the principal thing that separates them from Insular ‘Celts’. The Irish and Scots who overlap most with Scandinavians are IMO those with the least Celtic ancestry.
