This has been updated again. Has anyone else got any updates?
Here's all my deepdive results now.

Hi Grace, do you know which level is requested on the website to be able to check shared DNA segments with these iceland vikings ? And, is there a way to know if these segments are gaelic or viking, sorry if my question look stupid, still learningI know vikings came a lot in my area, from Noirmoutiers island until nantes and would be interesting to know if these invasions had an impact on my DNA.

It is an interesting question. On Mytrueancestry the deep dive connections are done on the website so I don't think you can check yourself. The Gaelic/Norse breakdown of the samples comes from the Icelandic study here.

You can see the breakdown of the Icelandic samples here.
Personally I don't take these results as meaning I have actual heritage from these genomes although any closely related population will have some shared genes. It would be great if tests one day offer to see if you have actual ancestry from some of these genomes. I really think that sort of thing will be offered in the future as people have a real thirst for these sort of questions.
Some people have been looking at Gedmatch to see if they do share with some of the ancients uploaded there.

Thanks for this Grace. I don't take too much for granted these results either, I guess most native people from my region (Loire-Atlantic & Vendée) would have some slightly similar results. But I think it's really fascinating finding some real proves of all these medieval stories. Also, I really have a very low distance with one of these icelandic samples (2.5), hence my question, but from my account I can't see the reference of that sample in oder to relate to the chart you uploaded showing the breakdown between gaelic and viking propertions, but if I could I could more efficiently relate it, if it's SVK-A1 for example I would know for sure it's related to them. Maybe there are others ways to find out, is someone aware of an ancient kit on Gedmatch of a real viking (Norvegian or Danish) from the 9th century ?

Post it and it might be possible to work out what sample it is. Is this a deep dive result? If it is due to distance I just take that as being a similar population. Many people like myself have a lot of closeness to some of the Lombard samples but that's because they are genetically Northern European.

Thanks for telling us! None of my maps have changed, but my ancient populations have (updated in my sig). The site seems to have shifted me slightly further away from Celts and a bit closer to Vikings. My 'closest modern genetic populations' have also changed as well - I remember it predicting Norwegian was my closest ethnicity before, and now it's changed to Orcadian which seems to be more in line with both my known ancestry and stuff like the K36 calculator (my Irish also shot up from 8th to 4th place). Great update overall I think![]()

Yes, nobody should take these ancestry results for granted but gives a rough idea I think.
