    Interesting. Any YDNA?

I heard it wasn't pure Balkan and had some Asian admixture. I imagine already mixed by that point. Which is why it is odd. Most of the Balkans have very little Eastern Asian like admixtures.

Can’t find any. There were 14 of them so not sure which sample this company is using. Most of these ancient samples are misleading in the first place. The Ostrogoth was some Greek noble for example. The Avar woman was similar to Belarusians etc

unlike the earlier South Asian skeletons, the later group at Roopkund had a genetic ancestry tied to the Mediterranean—Greece and Crete, to be exact. (An additional individual, who died at the same time as the Mediterranean group, had east Asian ancestry.) None of the tested individuals were related to each other, and additional isotopic studies confirm that the South Asian and Mediterranean groups ate different diets.
the admixed East Asian could’ve been some local like the Nepalese. It’s also possible they were walking across the frozen lake and started to crack which led to their deaths

This group of East Mediterraneans died at the Roopkund lake only 220 years ago. Very recent. Almost seems like a time frame where modern day descendants of the people who died would have this in their family history. Not too long ago at all.

Also, the following are the groups they compared the DNA to:

We selected 26 present-day populations for comparison, with particular emphasis on West Eurasian-related groups (we analyzed the West Eurasian-related groups Basque, Crete, Cypriot, Egyptian, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian_North, Italian_South, Norwegian, Spanish, Syrian, Ukranian,
I wonder what happens if they compare it to Macedonians, Serbs or Bulgarians.

So idiots in MTA used guys from XVIII century as proxy for Graeco-Bactrians because they died in Himalayas? Is it true or I'm dreaming???

So let's move on. Wehmacht soldiers died in Crimea in 1942 could be proxy for Goths, and soldiers from Afrika Korps died in Tunesia could be proxy for Vandals)))))

Yeah, crappy proxy. Still interesting to know what the hell this group of Meds were doing that far up in the Himalayas 220 years ago.

Simple, merchants from Osman Empire. Greeks were best traders there, better than Jews I read somewhere.
So merchant caravan that tried to cross frozen lake and ice was too thin? Or they were robbed by locals and then thrown in to the lake?

My 3 ancient populations are now Celt,Saxon and Vandal . Although I only get 1 vandal at 88 with FTDNA , and 1 at 90 with Ancestry with ancient samples.
Checking population link gives Irish for that combination. I'm struggling to take MTA seriously .
