"East Germany" is a former political designation. Many right-wing-ish Germans still refer to that region as Mitteldeutschland, because western parts of modern Poland and Czechia used to be German lands. Schwerin is a North German city, nothing to do with Dresden or Thüringen for example.

DDR overlaps with the part of Germany which was settled by Slavic tribes, and that's the area i'm interested in.

the only other way i could've said it is "post Germans east of the Sorbian march" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbian_March
