Because now they are good??? Have you been there, cause I have. If they enter EU tomorrow they will get richer, much richer for 3-4 years compared to what they are now, but I think the problem with them is the mentality. They would not embrace seriously the shared EU values like rule of law, democracy, respecting the rights of others... They have to really believe in this for EU membership to work. Otherwise we will have a much worse case than Poland or Hungary WITHIN EU (with much bigger Russian hybrid influence) that would stagnate it and would oppose a possible federalization...

Georgia will not be able to join the EU as it is a trans-Caucasus nation so not eligible for EU membership. I think EU's plan for Georgia is to make it part of the EU neighbourhood but not a member of the EU. Georgia is also too close to Russia. EU is not going to enlarge indefinitely and some countries are just never going to be given candidate status. EU will most likely take in all the Ex Yugo block eventually but I don't see any other countries getting membership.

I support it and it would be nice for Armenia to have neighboring Georgia as a EU member country.

After the Big Bang of EU (2004-2007 enlargement period), they could accept only Croatia in 2013 to guarantee Thessaloniki Summit. There is no way for any country (doesn’t matter how developed it is) to be part of EU before Western Balkan countries so even if Europeans are looking forward for Georgia to be a part of EU (which is not even a case), such thing wouldn’t happen.

Well, my parents been to Georgia recently, and they had a really great time there. That's the point. Georgians want to be independent from the rest of the world. If they joined then they would be forced to adopt EU laws and policies that would harm the general Georgian populace as a whole. And besides, I thought you Europeans hated the EU, no?

How would EU laws harm the general Georgian populace as a whole? EU laws are designed to increase people's rights and all countries that join the EU increase their standard of living. Anyway Georgia isn't a candidate for EU membership and it will not become a member of the EU due to it's geographic location. Anyway it would take years for Georgia to get up to speed. I think it is obvious that the EU has limitations as far as taking members in. It's not just going to enlarge indefinitely and never intended taking in Caucasus countries.

EU already has enough problems. Free movement for criminal Georgians, Albanians etc. won't help in my opinion. All conversations about a potential EU accession should be postponed until crime rates from Georgians and Balkanites are sinking (meaning potentially never)

The question is more like: "Should we want them ?" And I think the answer, for the next 25 years, would be a resounding "no". Come to think of it: I think we should be quite content with Brexit as well: they were holding Europe back and by buggering off and by fulling embracing America and her toxic commercialism (which will be the death of their own Union), they will only improve our own collective strength. Think of it: No more divisions between Europeans because of them, so, frankly, I wish they had gone sooner - or never joined at all (Luns, who did his best for the Brits when they were in a tight spot and when the Dutch were their only friends on the Continent during the 1960s, early 70s, should have listened to De Gaulle's 1963 "Non !" and left the matter for what it was)

    +1
EU now has the chance to move forward without UK veto. It will be exposed that it was indeed the UK holding the EU back. Good times lie ahead. Not to mention that the shambolic Brexit will serve as a great example for other members on what not to do. An Antidote in lack of a better word.
