    Default Genetic Inheritance

Which of your grandparents do you feel like you share the most DNA with based on facial structure and the various trait listed below. I was surprised when I found out who it was for me when I first got into genetics (it makes now that I know more about genetics, but). I always felt I resembles my maternal grandmother the most, and I don’t look anything like my paternal grandmother.

My traits: Dark brown hair, greenish-grayish eyes, 5’11.”

My grandparents are listed in the order of how much DNA I share with them. I’ll also list their main ethnicity.

    1. Paternal grandmother.
    - Dark brown/almost black hair, blue eyes, 4’11.” British Isles.

    2. Maternal grandmother.
    - Light brown hair, blue eyes, 5’10.” Eastern European.

    3. Maternal grandfather.
    - Strawberry blonde hair, greenish-grayish eyes, 5’11.” Scandinavian.

    4. Paternal grandfather.
    - Dark brown hair, blue eyes, 6’4.” Western Europe.

Wow, your paternal grandparents have a 15 inch height difference. Looks like you got the tall genes.

To answer the question, I resemble my paternal grandfather the most. Although he had very dark, thick wavy hair which I did not inherit.

It’s funny, because my 2nd great grandparents on my maternal grandmother’s side have a similar height difference. Most of the women in my family are VERY short, but one of my other female cousins (on my father’s side) and I are the only girls that can be considered “tall” in the family (besides our moms).

Very cool! And I didn’t even think to put hair texture, haha. It wouldn’t matter, though, because they all have straight hair anyways, lol.

My traits - 181cm/5'11, very dark brown/black hair, dark brown eyes. - Vaguely brown in appearance with some caucasian and East Asian features

Paternal grandfather: 5'7, black hair, dark brown eyes. - Half Chinese and half African.

Paternal grandmother: Not sure of height but apparently she was tall? brown hair, brown eyes. - Autosomally 2/3 Indian and 1/3 French

Maternal grandfather: 6', brown hair, brown eyes. - Ethnically Northern Pakistani

Maternal grandmother: About 4'8 rn, brown hair, blue/green eyes. - Northern Spanish

I definitely resemble my paternal grandfather the most. Aside from height my features are most similar to his.

I have seen that child can be similar to one parent up to 80% in genetics which can be attributed to repeated SNPs comes from both side. I believe this case can be more extreme in phenotype.

If i'm going to speak for myself, i'm genetically shifting to my father, probably around 70%. But in terms of phenotype i'm either at middle or closer to maternal side.

My traits: Dark brown wavy hair, brown eyes, white skin, 196 cm, external fold in right eye.(no fold in left - I'm a mutant -)

My paternal grandmother: Black straight hair, dark(Brown? Black?) eyes, olive skin, 155cm, complete mongoloid eyes. Balkan Turk.
My paternal grandfather: Black straight thin hair, brown eyes, olive skin, 170cm, external fold. Balkan Turk.

My paternal grandmother: Blonde wavy hair, blue eyes, pale skin, 175cm. Pomak
My paternal grandfather: Dark brown wavy hair, brown eyes, white skin, 180cm. Pomak

I look more like my father compared to my mother(she looks like her mom) but i'm kind of in between my paternal grandfather and maternal grandfather, even more like maternal grandfather.

Definitely with my paternal grandfather, we have the exact same height, same dark brown hair, same eye color, exact same nose as well, only difference is that he is quite white while I am more similar to gulf Iranians (thanks mom)

Wow! It seems like you guys have a lot in common.

Speaking of noses, I am very glad I didn’t get my paternal grandmother’s and my father’s nose. She had nose surgery when she was 16, because it was also causing her medical problems, but my father inherited her Roman nose. Roman noses look alright on men, but I don’t think one would’ve suited my face, lol. My nose is a mix between my maternal grandparents noses.

I think you could rock it just fine (the Roman nose)

Seems to me women are very hard on themselves when it comes to noses, I have always thought women with prominent noses can be quite attractive.
