With English or Dutch we could start having problems, every reference has their own "behavior" when used in conjunction with other, and this is a problem wich has different origins, from the type of maths used in these statistical packages and from the references themselves and the way in collecting samples etc.
I chose the references with all of this in mind, and they seem to work quite well. In any case, we could always make a model with what you propose at another time, and it maybe will work better than this one.
No problem in using different versions with different versions.![]()

But the Orkneys, Shetlands and Iceland would have experienced less recent population change than England and the Netherlands have over the last few hundred years. Historical events such as the Industrial Revolution may mean that the modern English and Dutch populations may have changed considerably over the last two or three centuries.

Yes but those island populations are small and drifted. They aren't a true representative of Northwestern Europe only the extreme periphery. Many Dutch and English are not much different that centuries ago if you get the correct samples like PoBI. English might have some Insular Celt in the woodpile but they are all Northwestern European. I'm just pointing out that the populations selected are a more extreme type and not core Northwestern European. It would be like selecting Sardinians to represent Southern Europe or the Azores to represent Southwest Europe. It is not a criticism of the calc but just an comment on the populations selected.
If I change the Northwest category with Dutch I still get this but just a higher distance.

Gixajo wanted the extremes but the Iberian category is quite a core Southwest selection. It is his calc so he can choose what populations he wants.![]()
The Irish Brigade's battle cry at Fontenoy, "Cuimhnigí ar Luimneach agus ar feall na Sasanaigh," translates to "Remember Limerick and the treachery of the English." After seeing the devastation caused by the Irish Brigade, the Duke of Cumberland reportedly remarked, "God curse the laws that made those men our enemies".

Even if declared just fun this is a very good calculator as it provides a brief and stable generalized assessment for Europeans. "Sometimes less is more" is a saying in German and it applies here. IMO it's very telling and even suitable to be a kind of "gold standard" for moderns.
