Current Ukrainian samples are too western. You can see in Europe1 PCA or Europe2 PCA, that some Ukrainians plot near East Germans.

For example sample Ukrainian:UKR-1283 plots like Czechs or East Germans.

There is also academic sample from Sumy Oblast (North-East Ukraine near the Russian border) which plots with East Germans / Czechs.

These Ukrainians are likely mixed with minority ethnic groups in Ukraine.

I'm surprised they were published by scientists as "typical Ukrainians".

Do you know their family Peterski? its never good to just assume things. Even among natives you will find extremes in both directions occasionally.

I usually don't save the samples from other countries than Moldova and Romania. I think I saw one more, but I don't recall the results.

Just similar results, this person is just random Ukrainian, he is from Podolia not Galicia, a region who is bordering northern Moldavian historical border, maybe he have some distant ancestors from Moldova.


Kamianets Podilskyi is located near historical Moldavian border close to Hotin (25km).

Kamianets Podilskii district boarders with Chernivtsi oblast. His ancestors can be from Chernivtsi or Kamianets Podilskii population can be close genetically to Chernivtsi. But, as for me, almost of Hmelnytsky oblast anthropologically looks more "northern", thats why it could be closer to Poles or Belarussians by autosomes. Its better to have several results from other places of Hmelnytsky oblast.
