Police find 324,000 used condoms being washed and resold to hotels and markets
Vietnamese police have confiscated 360kg worth of used condoms which were being washed for resale to hotels and market stalls by someone who received them in monthly instalments
Vietnamese authorities have confiscated more than 300,000 used condoms which were being washed for resale.
Nearly 324,000, or 360kg, were discovered during a raid on an apartment in Binh Duong Province in the country's south.
Local police said the used condoms were about to be cleaned and sold on without branding.
The owner of the unit admitted they had received a monthly input of used condoms from an unknown person.
The condoms would then be washed, dried and reshaped under unhygienic conditions before being stocked for sale.
It is unclear how many recycled condoms were already sold. Reports claim they were being supplied to nearby hotels and market stalls within the province.
All of the ones that were found were unpackaged and unlabelled, Vietnamese newspaper Tuoi Tre News reported.
Inspectors also found thousands of condoms which had been packed and readied for sale without brand names.
The Binh Duong market management department raided the facility in the province's Tan Vinh Hiep Ward in Tan Uyen Town on Saturday.
It was rented by someone who is accused of sorting through the dirty condoms, the Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance announced on Tuesday.
They reportedly said around once a month, "somebody" delivered thousands of used condoms to them
