I am quite angry about this.The Welsh government had all Summer, when infections were very low, to prepare extra capacity for the NHS, and Mark Drakeford claims that there is a risk of the NHS being overwhelmed even with the extra field hospitals and beds they have! The lockdown is IMO due to a mixture of incompetence, poor planning and a lack of consideration for people's livelihoods and liberties.

The Welsh NHS has struggled over the last few winters pre Covid with the decade of cuts. Not sure they'd have had the time to prepare for it.
It's going to be worse in Northern England where the local authorities and UK government aren't getting on.
