That has nothing to do with German POWs. They didn't stay in the camps anyway, were either released or died there.

The first villages in what is now Azovsky Nemetsky National District were founded in 1893 by the Volga Germans.

Doesn't even have anything to do with the Soviet Union. The history of Germans in Russia began back in the 18th century and it was not until 1941 when they were deported en masse to Kazakhstan.

I am not pure, just neither Russian nor Polish as 23&me says. Ukrainian should be right and I try to research possible Romanian origins of my mother's grandparents.

Thanks for sharing. I can tell you that your North European is very low for an East Slav (or for a Pole too for that matter) and also the Caucasus is somewhat high (almost 15%). Other than that nothing extraordinary.

I know that there were many Poles in Podolia. I definitely have Moldovan ancestors just 3 generations ago. I could not find birth records for this lineage earlier and thought they were Ukrainian as well.
