An adoptee from Russia (registered on TA as Lorca). There was a thread about him back in 2018, now the guy has resurfaced. Presumably he is Azerbaijani with a Russian grandparent.

This would be a very typical mix in Azerbaijan (Republic), especially in the capital region. The number of people I personally know who have either one of their parents or grand parents be Russian is quite high. Not that many people test though.
Recently I was surprised to find out that the guy who I went to school with and hang around had a Russian grandma ))

More likely Kurd from Baku. After Karabakh war a lot of Kurds from that region (especially Kalbajar, Lachin, etc.) migrated to Baku. Most of them don't like or want to mention that they are Kurds.
Have a close friend from Gubadly who is Kurd (also their whole village was Kurdish). Now he always claims he is Azeri.
I think this result indicates that the person is probably Kurdish.

But higher SW Asia and Caucasus indicate Kurdish. I mean his/her first pop is Zaza ))
I am almost certain that this person is either full or half Kurdish.
Even if he claims he is not, once we find out which part of the country he or his parents are from, we might be able to clarify this moment.
What I wrote about Kurds above is not a simple anecdote. Large population of Kurds in the Caucasus could not suddenly disappear. Many do not like to point out that they are Kurdish. It is almost wilful assimilation.

Most likely he is mixed yes. Kurds are part of Azerbaijani ethnogenesis (in some regions) and Baku is a melting pot. But I doubt he is fully Kurdish.
Zaza is not a pure Kurdish reference (in my opinion).

Most of the Caucasus Kurds were deported/resettled in Kazakhstan in the 1930-40s. Around 45,000 Kurds live today in Southeastern Kazakhstan.

The Zazas (also known as Kird, Kirmanc or Dimili)[6] are a people in eastern Turkey who speak the Zaza language. Their heartland consists of Tunceli and Bingöl provinces and parts of Elazığ, Erzincan and Diyarbakır provinces.[2] Zazas generally[7] consider themselves Kurds,[8][5][9][10] and are often described as Zaza Kurds.
More recent data from 2005 suggests that the Zaza-speaking population varies from approximately 2 to 4 million.[1] Many Zazas only speak Kurmanji Kurdish as it was believed that the Zaza language was an offshoot of Kurmanji.[3]
While Zazas largely consider themselves Kurds,[7] some researches consider Zazas to be a separate ethnic group, and treat them as such in their academic work.[16] A scientific report from 2005 concluded that Zazas share the same genetical pattern as other Kurdish groups and did not support the hypothesis of Zazas originating from Northern Iran.[17]
