They are genetically very homogeneous and neither Iranic(or IE) nor Turkic. Maybe they were absorbed by other groups, since there is no any linguistical evidence we can’t say what they were exactly. But genetically they were Ugic and the Ugric theory is scientific accepted. Considering this results personally i would assume they were maybe the ancestors of Ugrics, as far i know R1b, N, C and O were found among them but i am not sure.

"Damgaard et al. (2018) extracted aDNA from three different Botai individuals. Two of them turned out to be genetically male, and another one was genetically female. Two of the samples were taken from crania curated in Petropavlovsk Museum, denoted as "Botai Excavation 14, 1983" and "Botai excavation 15".

Autosomally, the Botai population turned out to be closer to the Ancient North Eurasian component than the Yamnaya population. No significant gene flow between Botai and Yamnaya was observed.

Botai 14, dated to 3517-3108 cal BC, carried a derived allele at R1b1a1-M478. Haplogroup R1b occurs almost exclusively in non-European populations, and reaches the highest frequencies in populations surrounding the Altai region, the common ancestor with major European R1b lived somewhat more than 13 000 years ago). Botai 15, dated to 3343-3026 cal BC, belonged to the basal haplogroup N*-M231. Regarding mitochondrial DNA, the Copper Age Botai sample BOT2016 belonged to the haplogroup Z1a, Botai 15 - to R1b1, and Botai 14 - to K1b2.

One more Botai individual, tested in September 2015, belonged to the mitochondrial DNA haplogroup K1b2 and (with the 97.1% probability) the Y-DNA haplogroup O2."

TBH I don't think Botai can really be attributed to any modern linguistic group, considering it is also predating Yamnaya
