Keep in mind that nowadays Syria was, lets forget the centuries before that, a melting pot of different people and cultures during the Ottoman empire. Even until early 20th century many Caucasians(which is probably already well known after 4 Dodecad threads) and even many Greeks settled in many areas of Syria and other places of Levante. Id really want to know whether the first sample is a Syrian Turkmen/partly Turkish or Caucasian like Circissians. Second one could be partly Greek imo.

Excellent work!
Do you have distribution for Kumyks and Vainakhs too? Would be interesting to see the comparison with the Azerbaijanis.
Also interesting to see disparity between the distribution of J1 and R(a and b) between Azerbaijanis of the republic and Iran.
How do you interpret the distance in this case? They seem to be far removed in both plots.

I don't know if they are necessarily far apart. Variation in Iranian regions for example is stronger than the variation of Azerbaijanis. Although there is a significant difference in the distribution of J1, which seems a lot more common in the Republic than in Iran. This is the main difference for them plotting a bit far from each other. But overall still close. It gets more evident if you add a really far population like for example Turkmens or Arabs.
With Kumyk added:
