I am wondering because none of my exact matches are the same ethnicity as me

Mtdna/Ydna traces way way way back to your first ancestors, you basically don't have almost nothing incommon with them. At the times ethnics didn't even exist.

You can get close mtdna matches, it all depends on how many people tested. Luckily in my case a Polish university in Warsaw uploaded a bunch of samples to yfull so it dates back to the middle ages. The Hungarian sample is a sample from a Magyar conqueror gravesite.

I have 3 exact matches and all their oldest ancestors are in Ireland. They are 0 distance. One of the matches has a surname that I also have in my family tree. I'm sure if I put some effort into it we could most likely find a direct connection.
The Irish Brigade's battle cry at Fontenoy, "Cuimhnigí ar Luimneach agus ar feall na Sasanaigh," translates to "Remember Limerick and the treachery of the English." After seeing the devastation caused by the Irish Brigade, the Duke of Cumberland reportedly remarked, "God curse the laws that made those men our enemies".
