What a beautiful thread , you won't believe me but I was thinking to start it myself , here in Italy women hardly dress in traditional clothes , it actually happens only in the south , I had a girl who was from Sardinia , our most archaic region , over there there's still a strong affect for traditions and identity , women quite often wear classical vests , their mums made it by hand , they are so precious and literally cost thousands of euros.
these should be the widows if I remember well...
Sardinians are very proud of their identity and I've to confess I find women in clothes very sexy , they're so feminine.
More to come of course...

The scaring mamuthones , they are Carnival maskx and represents the slave or the laborers oppresed by the master.
a little boy
this is instead an Issohadores
the singing bells mean the chains who kept the laborer slave to the master , the dark faces the tan due to working from dawn to sunset in the fields.

Those masked men strikingly remind me of our Kukers, which scary the evil forces after Sun's Death on 21st December (the old New year) and the so called Dirty days, until 6th of January:

Here in our country the tradition of wearing traditional folk costumes or klederdracht is unfortunately as good as dead.
But here are some samples from Spakenburg, a nearby former fishing village.

I had a thread like this, but for the English. I'll just be lazy and post the link and an obligatory picture.

Staphorst, also in the Netherlands is an orthodox protestant village . Here klederdracht is still frequently being worn by (mostly) the elderly.
Klederdracht is expected to literally die out.

Have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in ‘illegal immigrants’, and add just a few more letters, it spells, ‘Go home you free-loading, benefit-grabbing, resource-sucking, baby-making, non-English-speaking ********* and take those other hairy-faced, sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel-riding, goat-f*****g raghead c***s with you.?
