Also Ukrainians are different from Russians or Belarusians. They are more energetic and passionate, vast majority of them don’t have imperial ambitions and they aim to build their own prosperous country. What is more, they do not worship a president and they are able to be very critical to the government(Orange revolution, Maidan).
Majority of Ukraine wants to be a part of Western civilization without trying to get rid of their Eastern culture, of course they know they have much in common with Russia by same heritage but with such differences in this moment and the closest future they shouldn't be one country. You won't change mentality of people in a moment, it takes decades so the compatibility of mentality and values won't happen soon.
