So, at last night Orbán wins again with much difference, the Left was completely destroyed, but what is the reason? I think many foreigner don't understand or know it why Orbán is so popular. That's why i created this thread, to help you to understand it, because this is a very long and complex story.
-between 1985-1990, communist Hungary: there were two group in the KISZ (Communist Youth League), the first group was the liberals led by Viktor Orbán, the second group was the reform communists led by Gyula Horn. Basically the present hungarian elite came from the KISZ.
-1990: the communism is over, Orbán said his famous speech "russkies go home". The Fidesz was liberal party at this time, not even conservative. It was the election result:
42,5% MDF (conservative party)
24% SZDSZ (liberals)
11,4% FKGP (right winger peasant party)
8,6% MSZP (reform communists)
5,4% Fidesz (liberals)
Between 1990-1994, the privatization has started, when everyone stoled everything, including factories, economic sectors, companies etc. The only exception was the media sector, the Left kept its hegemony here.
-1994: This whole "democracy" was a very new thing in Hungary, and the peoples were disappointed because the living standards were worse than in the communism, and at this time the golden age of mafia has started including the oil mafia, russian Red Mafia, serbian gengsters etc. Hungary became a Wild East, where the peoples killed by the mafia in broad daylight on the street, it was not rare. In this chaotic country, the peoples voted back the communists, result of the election:
54,15% MSZP
17,62% SZDSZ
9,87% MDF
6,74% FKGP
5,7% KDNP (christian conservative party)
5,18% Fidesz
The state and the police was very weak at this time, the mafia ruled everything. It has become clearly that the communists could not remove the mafia and the organized crime from the country. Also the liberals (SZDSZ) started to make coalition with communists, it was József Torgyán (leader of FKGP) very famous speech bout "liberal worms, parasites":
The first neonazi movements have appeared and the Fidesz became conservtive party push the MDF out from the conservative side, these all promised order and peace.
-1998: The conservtive Fidesz wins and they started to build the civil democracy and stability, although the communist-liberal alliance was very strong. The result of election:
38,44% Fidesz
34,72% MSZP
12,4% FKGP
6,22% SZDSZ
4,4% MDF
3,63% MIÉP (ultranationalists, neonazis)
Basically it was a good government but the Fidesz could not make high living standards, so the peoples were not satisfied.
2002: The communist-liberal coalition returned back to the power and they won the election. They took out tons of loan from IMF, so the living standards were better, but at same time they brutally opressed the national feelings, they had complete media hegemony etc. The result of election:
42% MSZP
41% FIdesz-MDF
5,5% SZDSZ
4,6% MIÉP
Hungary is basically a nationalist country, but the Left opressed any nationalism so the peoples were angry, and it was the moment when a girl came out from the shadow (in 2004) called Diána Bácsfi and she founded the Magyar Jövő Csoport (Hungarian Future Group), and she declared the complete restoration of old hungarian nazi state, total radicalization and the complete reckoning with the communists.
Although her movement was not big or significant, and other neonazis didn't support her for male chauvinist reasons (they didnt accept a female führer), but she became a symbol later because the Left opressed her brutally and maked a martyr of her, so his carrier was not long but it started a very serious and bloody process in the public life. The golden age of hungarian neonazis, ultranationalists has started.
2006: The Left wins the next election:
43,21% MSZP
42,03% Fidesz
6,5% SZDSZ
5,4% MDF
At this time in the nationalist circles there was revolutionary atmosphere and dissatisfaction. There were tons of neonzi and ultranationalist paramilitary movements, troops, and training camp in Hungary, they worked together to make a military putsch against the post-communist-liberal coalition. The leftist leader was Ferenc Gyurcsány at this time, and in 2006, september his secret speech has been published by unknown persons:
He said the hungarian economy is in ruins and they lied, stealed every day. It was the moment when the neonzis and ultranationalist started a long and bloody uprising/putsch against the government. When the demonstrations happened, these tens of thousands extremist paramilitary units flooded Budapest to capture government buildings:
Hungary was under martial law, the street fights have dragged on for years but finally the Left defeated the neonazis and ultranationalists, and the trials and punishments has started. Tons of putschists (including my sister) moved to abroad because they afraid of the revenge of the government. The neonazi leader György Budaházy got 17 years prison, other leaders too. Orbán and the fidesz didnt support neither the government neither the putschists, but they gived partly amnesty for putschists after 2010 thats why my sister moved back.
2010: the peoples wanted peace, stability, they hated the neonazis, the street fights, the police brutality of Left, the riots, the mafia and this complete last 20 years violence, so the Fidesz won:
52,73% Fidesz
19,3% MSZP
16,67% Jobbik (right winger extremists)
7,48% LMP (green party)
And Orbán won all election between 2010-2022, this is why he is so popular. Orbán maked order and stability in the eternal chaos, he destroyed the organized mafia, he banned the neonazis, and other extremists (like these kultur-marxist now), the living standards rised year by year, he brought back the healthy nationalism, the human rights and everything what you see in the modern Hungary. Majority of peoples support Orbán because they remember how Hungary looked like before him, this is the main reason.
