Slavery is very complicated. There are many accounts of slaves and slave masters having strong bonds of loyalty to each other. Jefferson Davis had a slave whose name I forget that he greatly trusted and respected. Unless the slave master is a brutal piece of shit there will be positive relationships formed. You had White children being taken care of by Black women. How could that not create a bond between them? That doesn't make slavery right, obviously, but when you read slave narratives it's very complicated.
If I was a slave - knowing my personality - I'd burn the slave owner's house down knowing full well I'd be a dead man. I really hate yard work. However, life is complicated and slaves had their personal relations and children that have their influence on decisons. Fleeing north has its own problems, etc. etc.
So it's complicated. Richmondbred, of course, is insane to be clear.

Yeah, but that was until these laws came about:
Laws of Burgos
New Laws
Once emperor Charles gave his assent to them, colonists had to bow down their heads and obey. On the Anglo side of the fence, once king George III and Parliament tried to do the same (and extend Quebec, limit colonist expansion to the west and protect Catholics in the colonies), you Yanks rebelled, with all the consecuences we all know.

I'm not maximizing or minimizing the atrocities of any side, and I seem to be alone in this. People feel a need to defend their particular tribe in a way that seems like the Bloods criticizing the crimes of the Crips while they defend, deny, downplay, etc. their own drive-by shootings.

Hasien is an idiot. Many of the Amerindians in Chiapas didn't assimilate. They're still around. They still speak their own languages. Many of them don't even speak Spanish.
The Aztecs, which were only a minority of the population, disappeared because their center of power became the center of Spanish colonial power in that area and so they disappeared as a distinct group.

And most importantly, they weren't an united, monolithic bloc. They had plenty of fighting, enslaving and all around rivalry among them, so much so that some of them intended to use the Euro as a club to beat the others into submission. Little did they know the can of worms they were opening up with that.

People can be shitty all over but everything has a reason. The reason why the Spaniards incorporated Amerindians is because there were so fucking many of them concentrated in specific areas that made it ideal to use them as labor. You didn't have large concentrations of Amerindians in what is now modern-day US and so they're more of a problem than a resource.
