Nizhny Novgorod region Russians are quite homogenous, lots of them arrived and settled there from strict central Russia. My father has roots there, from old-believer Russians. There was always a kind of apartheid and parallel existance between Russians and non-Russians, still there are widely presented double names of villages standing next to each other like "Tatar Maklakovo" - "Russian Maklakovo" - "Chuvash Maklakovo" etc
