I think distances are much better indicator than what % you get, btw you do realize we have other Illyrian samples from Montenegro and Albania (And possibly Iron Age in Northern Macedonia which is also related to this group of people)

The Iberians scoring so high is only a technical issue of the coordinates and the algorithm (and maybe also some relationship of similarity between ancient peoples of southern Europe ) and does not imply a real ancestry relationship, at least not as high as our results seem to show.

That's because Southern Europeans shifted more east during Roman period. Iberians ended up plotting where some of the Iron Age Croatia plots and Italians where some of these other Southern Iron Age Illyrians plot, with Albanians shifting east of Southern Illyrians. Northern Illyrians disappeared but today they would possibly overlap with Italians due to this but actual Illyrians in the south wouldn't. Albanians clustering just east of Iron Age Albania / Macedonia could as well be Southern Illyrian descendants which is also the same paternal markers we see except for E-V13.

In general Illyrians and Italo-Celts aren't related at all and they belong to totally different paternal markers, Illyrians in Vucedol were R-Z2103/R-PF7563 a Steppe marker typical of the Yamnaya which also shows up among the Illyrians of Iapygian/Daunians and in Iron Age Northern Albania while Italics were mostly Bell Beaker derived and different branch of R1b. J2b2-L283 has not been found in any Italic samples before Illyrian migrations to Italy, mainly shows up in some Sardinians and Etruscans after Illyrian migrations into the area.


One R-Z2118 in Croatia and some other in Slovenia is mostly due to Bell Beaker / Italic invasion contact with Illyrians and vice versa.
