I essentially was under the impression Scottish, or American, as a kid. Mainly because my dads mom has a Scottish surname and my surname eventually originates in East Lothian. It wasn't till I took a good look at my family tree in my early 20s, that the realization struck me that more than half of it overall was of English extraction. I also easily have more Irish and Scots-Irish than Scottish proper. My German ancestry, of around 20-30% coming from various immigration events between 1700 and 1830, was never noted often or at all in my family.
Looking back at it, I think my English ancestry did end up having the biggest impact on my family, and my siblings and my own upbringing, considering certain key elements of my familys behavior.

It really depends on childhood development, living arrangements and society. The Eurasian people in Australia that I know of, including myself and my relatives, we all identify with both sides of our ancestry to some degree but primarily as Australian.

The ways in which mixed people identify can change and some go through different stages of development, it's described in Root's biracial/multiracial identity model.

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." (John 10:10-11)

I'm like 2/3 Spanish /mena/SSA and 1/3 amerindian. So obviously I will pick the majority of my ancestry.

I think he was mostly talking about Anglo-America (The US and Canada). Over there people tend to identify with the side that got the "worse" fame: For Example, a German-Italian combo will identify as Italian, an Irish-PR one as Puerto Rican, a French-Mex as Mexican and any possible thing with black will alwaaaaaays identify as black. On my many journeys to the US I've confirmed that this principle is somewhat true.
