The magnificent Norman Castle in Roseto Capo Spulico (Calabria), the favourite among the possessions of Frederick II, rises in an incomparable landscape position, on a rock slightly raised above the surrounding sand, in contemplation of the Ionian Sea clear waters.
Roseto was originally one of the satellite cities of Sybaris, at the time of Magna Grecia. Roseto was named after the roses that were cultivated there. Legend has it that the petals were used to fill the mattresses of the well-to-do ladies in ancient Sybaris, a large city, just to the south, renowned for its self-indulgent lifestyle.
