My mom was full Spanish (from Mallorca), and I lived in Spain and became Spanish citizen, so is even more my business than in the case of any random Latin American.
You talk like if Catalans were oppressed, when IRL their region enjoys a special autonomic status, even with their own police forces, and Madrid is too generous and allows them too much when their Catalan regional government goes too far almost wanting to suppress Castilian-Spanish from schools and from everywhere. The only oppressed are non-Catalan Spaniards living in Catalonia, and Madrid has been too permissive with Catalan authorities and their abuses. Even their industries are thanks to the Spanish central government, that (when Franco) planned to put many of the industries in that part of the country (as part of economic zoning national plan of the central government), and now Catalans act like they have those industries because they are smarter and more industrious than other Spaniards.
Madrid has been so generous and permissive with them, giving them one hand, and they take all your arm.

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.
