The Dekimpe bakery shop, established in Tervuren (Flanders), was recently called to order by the governor of Flemish Brabant because a member of its staff allegedly did not speak Dutch with a customer. The baker Didier Dekimpe said he was surprised by the letter he received.
One of the bakery employees reportedly recently asked a customer if he could serve him in French instead of Dutch. The customer does not seem to have appreciated it and immediately sent a complaint to the office of the provincial governor, Jan Spooren. The latter has since written a letter to the bakery asking him to speak Dutch to his customers.
"I do not really understand why the governor goes so far as to write a letter on this subject", reacts Didier Dekimpe. "People from different backgrounds work in our company and everyone has to do their best. We always greet a customer with 'Goeiedag, hello'. If that person replies 'Goeiedag', we speak Flemish. It's as simple as that" , he explains.

They'll soon be required to speak Arabic, then they'll have reason to complain.

I'm surprised he spent time writing a letter to a bakery, probably there's nothing of actual interest going on in Flanders.

Die gouverneur had blijkbaar niets beters te doen. Dan kan men die post net zo goed meteen schrappen.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

But aren't both languages supposed to be co-official?
This in Switzerland would not happen.
