NASA announced that observations by the James Webb Space Telescope revealed the presence of methane, carbon dioxide, and possibly dimethyl sulphide. The presence of DMS is a potential biosignature, as the bulk of the DMS in Earth’s atmosphere is emitted from phytoplankton in marine environments, although further observation and ruling out a geological or chemical origin for the compound is required.
