Yakub Cemil de Çerkes. İşte dediğim gibi her iki tipte Çerkes tanıdım. Onun için şöyleler böyleler diye genellemiyorum Çerkesleri. En yakın arkadaşlarım arasında var çünkü. Etnikçilik genel olarak büyük bir problem. Tatarın da etnikçisi var mesela, her türlüsü tehlikeli.

I see no problem for a Circassian to live in modern Russia, having own republics, education in own language etc.


When the Kosovo War began, the Circassians in Kosovo emigrated to their ancestral homeland, Republic of Adygea, where they founded a village named Mafekhabl near the republic's capital of Maykop.

My Mom's family settled in Turkey in 1905. She is from Teberda ( Karachay–Cherkess Republic). There are few people who returned to Russia from her village. She is Karachay but her family relatives who live in Russia and known to be knowledgeable about my mom's family roots told her that they were originally Circassians who initially settled alongside the Karachays.

For Serbs with surname Kerkez (they are mostly from western Bosnia) was believed they have Circassian roots. Allegedly Kerkez is modification of Čerkez which means Circassian in Serbian. It turns out that Kerkezi from western Bosnia are I2-Y3120, in other words they have nothing to do with Circassians.
