Really In Mexico this Is considered the norm I'm sure It applies to the rest of Latin America even among strangers passing by and older folks it's considered rude not saying good morning night etc excuse me etc..

I guess different cultures manners.

I think being kind could be a very masculine trait especially if paired with confidence and good morals. Also, men exhibit kindness in a different way than a woman would.

Here it is considered rude if you don't greet people on the street if you live in small town or village. Or people in your building. Also if you don't give up your seat to elderly person or woman with child in the bus.

But smiling to strangers is considered odd if not downright creepy.
