Karlo Ressler, a Croatian member of the European Parliament, said that the EU has shown maturity and independence from ideological dogmas and that it is ready to find a solution and rules with the common goal of restoring the confidence of European citizens that Europe is able to control migration, that is ready to restore control over the external borders of the EU, but also to protect some of its fundamental principles: "I would say that the package is a balance between responsibility and solidarity, among the member states. Likewise, solidarity towards those who are the most vulnerable, towards those who are really fleeing war, but also to try to more decisively than before protect the borders and prevent the abuses that were taking place. The people who come today are, for the most part, not refugees fleeing war, but rather economic migrants who find themselves at European borders via various smuggling groups, which this act also aims to break and provide tools to member states, but also to the EU, with one common European solution so that this could happen in practice."

https://dubrovacki.slobodnadalmacija...-malte-1353195
Three people died in a serious traffic accident last night on the A1 highway not far from Karlovac. The driver of a Mitsubishi with Hungarian license plates hit a fence, flew over it and directly hit the Alfa, which was carrying a family from Rijeka. 12 people were injured and transported to several hospitals in Zagreb, Karlovac and Rijeka.
Six younger men were hospitalized in the Karlovac hospital. Three were seriously injured, and three were slightly injured. One of them is facing a difficult operation that should begin soon. There is also a minor, a 16-year-old boy, whose parents were killed in a terrible traffic accident last night.
Three of the injured are in KBC Rijeka, two are undergoing surgery, and one is in the intensive care unit. One injured person who was in KBC Rijeka accompanied by the police left the hospital. Two young men were transported to Zagreb. One suffered serious spinal injuries and was operated on at the Traumatology Clinic at KBC Sestre Milosrdnice, he is only 15 years old. One 17-year-old, say doctors of Egyptian origin, is in KBC Zagreb. Fortunately, he suffered minor injuries, but he was still hospitalized for pediatric surgery. He has contusions and scratches on his body and he should be released from the hospital in a few days - reported Ištuk.
16-year-old was returning with his parents from Malta, where they were on a New Year's trip and were going from the Zagreb airport to Rijeka.
-The boy found out that he lost his parents, he is aware of the traffic accident. He is in a state of shock, we will keep him for a few days. He was slightly injured. We provided him with psychological help, and none of his family members have come to pick him up yet - said Dr. Juraj Katušin and added that a doctor colleague who speaks Arabic helps them communicate with the migrants, as well as that one of them declared himself a citizen of Moldova. and all are in their 20s.
Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović said on Saturday that the police are verifying the identity of the persons injured in the traffic accident in which three people died this morning on the A1 highway, and based on unofficial information that the accident was caused by a smuggler, he told the migrants that the police are making their job difficult.
The 48-year-old driver and his one-year-younger female passenger were killed in a car with Croatian plates, while one passenger, whose identity has not yet been established, was killed in a car with Hungarian plates. According to unofficial data, migrants transported by a migrant smuggler were injured in that vehicle.

You know, coming from a place like Israel where we've got one homeland, it strikes me how important the whole security of land borders and immigration thing is. Croatia, with its tight-knit community and not being a massive nation, makes it all the more crucial. It's like ensuring the safety of your shared home. In a world where countries are diverse and some more populous, focusing on security just makes sense. After all, making sure your place is safe and sound is a universal concern, right?
One remarkable thing about Croatia is that, despite its rich history and culture, it never really went on massive colonization ventures across the globe. Unlike some other nations that left a significant mark on various continents, Croatia's story is more about holding onto its roots and nurturing its unique identity. There's a certain pride in not being known for colonization, and instead, focusing on cultivating a deep connection with its own land and people. It's like celebrating the strength that comes from homegrown roots rather than distant conquests.

Agree
We have a legend saying the following:
This was violated when King Zvonimir wanted to take a Crusade (so to your Holy Land!) but was due to that killed by his Knights who rebelled. Dying Zvonimir cursed the Croats with curse saying for next 1000 years there will be rulers of foreign blood. And so it was.By accepting the Christian faith, the Croats signed an anti-war treaty with the Holy See in 680. Croats promised the pope; that they will not be the first to go to war with anyone, that they will not conquer other people's lands, but that they will only defend his own. In return, Pope Agathon promised them that the God will always be with them when they were attacked.
Here is patriotic song Curse of King Zvonimir

We never colonised foreign lands but actually Croats like the Jews have one of biggest diasporas in the world; from Tierra del Fuego in southern Chile and Argentina to Canada, South Africa and New Zealand, where they even created a mixed race community and new ethnicity with the local Maori people.
Our history is very troubled and due to that there are more Croats out of Croatia than in it.
They never forget where they came from and without their huge donations both in money and volounteers modern Croatia wouldn't exist.
I hope immigration won't destory us.

A bit like the Irish then? (I often say, and only partly in jest, that the English invade other countries and lands in order for the Irish to settle them). Btw, didn't you say a few weeks ago that Chilean-Croatians usually have a very tenuous identification with Croatia nowadays?

Wow, that's pretty interesting piece of history about the Croatians. No wonder they're not too aggressive towards other nations, more about defending their own. Plus, supporting others against aggression and terrorists—that's pretty honorable.
By the way, just a tiny correction: back in the day, the Holy Lands were in Muslim hands. Now that they're back with the Jewish people, it kind of makes the sacred places here belong to you, Christians, just like you keep our synagogues in your lands.
