It's paternal, Jingle Bell posted the old version of the Y-Full page. I think it's harder for to get an estimation on haplogroup J since it needs more testers for it's certain clades. So you might not get what you expect when you buy something like a BigY, though there is also a chance that it would delve much depper into the subclades of J-M205. Would it change your results dramaticallly ? I don't think so.

Yeah J2 (most likely) means that you have a male ancestor from the Near East, this is not uncommon around the Mediterranean.
If your male ancestor who brought this haplogroup to Mexico was from Spain,
then he may have been descended from Canaanites, Samarians, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, North Africans, Moors, Jews,
and/or other similar groups.
If your male ancestor was a more recent immigrant to Mexico from a country other than Spain,
then he may have been Lebanese, Syrian, Jewish, Greek, Southern Italian, many Mediterranean possibilities.
Many forced Jewish or Muslim converts to Christianity in Spain went to the New World, where there was less repression.
If you have any Sephardic Jewish DNA or ancestor, even from hundreds of years ago,
then you may be eligible to emigrate to Israel!
Supposedly the Israelis do DNA tests for potential Sephardic immigrants

Glad to know this! I would like to have Israeli citizenship, I remembered reading years ago many mexicans were applying for Spanish citizenship when they had a law about obtaining citizenship as long you can prove you are descends from a Spanish Jew unfortunately that law Is no longer available In Spain and never took advantage of It.
Im going to study about the Israeli case.
