The minor Turkic ancestry in Dagestanis and Nakhs was, of course, brought by the ancestors of Kumyks, cousins of Oghuric Karachay-Balkars.

If Dagestanis had adopted the speech of their Steppe EMBA mothers, they would most likely have spoken some form of Armenian.

Do they not have any Iranian ancestry?
Dagestan is diverse, I think Kumyks have significantly lower Steppe ancestry than NE Caucasian speakers.
