If you look at a PCA graph Labriego's cluster makes perfect sense, assuming when he said his father was from Castile he meant from the far Northeast of Castile & Leon closer to Basque lands such as around Soria.

I made a PCA showing how both of our clusters differs from expectation based on midpoint. I write "guess" because neither his parents nor my mother's coordinates are available so they are estimated based on ethnicity. Assuming his father is indeed from Soria he is about as far from his expected cluster as I am from mine:

If his father came from a more Southwesterly area of Castile Labriego's predicted cluster might be closer to Tuscany and thus he could be notably more Northwestern in cluster than expected. Even say he was from Ciudad Real in the West of Castile-La Mancha I think the normal range of individual variation for both Spanish and Ashkenazi could account for the discrepancy. I will have to ask him for more specific information.

It's just that he can be modeled better with other sources, instead of Hungarian + other sources. It is the same reason why your closest distance doesn't always show up in your admixture; it maximizes fit. Just the way the math works out. Take out some sources and see what happens, or plot him on the PCA

It's just that he can be modeled better with other sources, instead of Hungarian + other sources. It is the same reason why your closest distance doesn't always show up in your admixture; it maximizes fit. Just the way the math works out.
