Japanese matcha green tea latte made with semi-skimmed milk.
It's like a magic drink to me as it's so uplifting and invigorating, has 137 times the amount of antioxidants than normal green tea, gives a powerful and extended release of energy that lasts for a long period of time (at least 6-8 hours or more,) yet it's calming too whilst improving focus and energy. I only need one cup per day as the effects are long-lasting.
I never drink alcohol or coffee. I only drink mineral water, herbal tea, and matcha green tea.
Matcha green tea only contains 1/3 of the caffeine found in a cup of coffee, and unlike coffee, it doesn't cause any trembling and jittery feelings, but has both a calming and invigorating effect.
The tea leaves are specially grown out of the sunlight and are kept in the shade in Japan, and then the leaves are ground into a fine green powder.
It's expensive (at least £10 for a small jar of good quality and organic matcha tea - but it's worth it and you only need a small teaspoon of finely sifted matcha powder per cup which is whisked (using either a bamboo chasen or a small hand whisk) into a small pan of warmed milk or filtered water that's between 70C and 80C,) and it has a lovely bright green colour. A fine green misty smoke from the powder raises up into the air each time I unscrew the lid from the jar, which I love.... and there's so many versatile ways to make matcha tea.
Also the matcha powder can be sprinkled over porridge oats, used in smoothies, etc. Just use a small sprinkle over porridge using a small tea strainer to gently sift out any lumps and to make the powder very fine and easier to blend.
Matcha green tea can be made with water, cows milk, rice milk (which adds some natural sweetness that blends out any bitter taste if a strong matcha tea is made,) soya milk, or a mix of water and milk like regular tea, it can be whisked into a latte, it can be drunk warm or cold. It's versatile. Drink immediately after making it to avoid the powder settling at the bottom of the cup.
