It honestly depends. "Inappropriate" is a weird word, too, since it's not really morally wrong if two people who are both established adults are dating... even if the gap is quite large and people, including myself, think it's odd and uncomfortable. I do think there has to be something a bit off about a person if they are willing to entertain a long term serious relationship with someone who is in a significantly different part of life than they are, ie. someone about to hit their middle ages with someone fresh out of college. Like what do you even have in common at that point? But of course it's all subjective and also depends a lot on the personalities and motivations of the people involved.

If I really had to generalize, I'd say it probably gets weird beyond 10-15 years. This is assuming the younger person is over 25. I think fresh out of high school or even college-aged people should not be in age gap relationships because they barely know how to be functional adults on their own.
