The Greek looking areas are the parts of southern Italy and Sicily on the Ionian and Adriatic Sea.

I think that Reggio is really different of the rest, also the extreme south... but Calabrians are light in general.
Around Italy there many people say something that is an autistic stereotype= "I contadini della Sila sono mori, hanno la pelle olivastra e i capelli neri" and that's not true at all!
Indeed many people of that area is quite light too...
That’s correct! Just stereotypes! I am Calabrian and I live in Calabria and I can confirm this. As I’ve already said before, in Italy we don’t make this distinction among Italian regions. There is really no big difference between Northern and Southern Italians or among the various areas of Italy.
In particular, the difference between Northern Italy and Southern Italy is completely outdated now in Italy, and doesn’t hold much, not even as a stereotype. We may be genetically different, but as I’ve already said, physically we do not appear different to each other and we are indistinguishable.
The idea that in a certain area of a region people are darker than average and in another area people are lighter doesn’t exist in Italy, and it has never existed, especially if you’re talking about the same region.
This whole discussion of the differences among the single regions or areas of Italy only takes place outside Italy and mainly among Americans or in other Anglo Saxon countries where ethnic and racial stereotypes play a major role in society.

Lorenzo De Medici was from Tuscany (Northern/Central Italy) and he was portrayed as darker in Renaissance paintings.

You can find dark people in the North to the same extent as in the South. And that goes for light people as well. That’s also because there’s a lot of internal migration within the Italian territory and people from the south marry people from the north and viceversa. Italy is a small country and it is not difficult to move from a region to another. And this has happened for centuries.
For example, if you meet an Italian guy who looks dark and you tell him “Ok, you must be from the South because your skin is dark” not only could you be totally wrong but he will laugh at you lol
I’m Italian and I know what I’m talking about.

They look unique. I wouldn’t even guess them as Sicilian or Greek.
