The Irish are the palest of all Europeans, but that stereotype concerning the ‘dark Welsh’ as if it’s the whole country is just that… a stereotype. I still think the Welsh are slightly ‘darker’ than the English on average, despite the all the Germanic admixture in the latter.

Goes without saying compared to the English, but they are neck-and-neck with the Scottish (from my understanding). They are so similar in pigmentation it’s irrelevant to the wider statement that the Irish/Scottish are the ‘fairest’ of all Europeans (excluding Finns).

See, how ridiculous you sound? There are not only Irish, but also Germans, Poles, Russians, Belgians, French, etc…. who may look like Spaniards. Aren’t Spaniards European too? This doesn’t mean that most of them do, OK! I see you don’t know anything as you see Irish people only on TV, right? Some Russians look like a mixture of Caucasoid + Mongoloid (Eurasian) mixture by the way. So let’s not go there. The GWAS study show the Irish to be lighter - skinned (whiter), lighter - haired and lighter - eyed than the Polish. So there is no lol here, this is a proper study. In fact the Irish have one of the highest frequencies of blue or light eyes in the world (approximately 86%).

Firstly you have to put in mind whether Irish or Scottish or English or Welsh, these people are already paler than the continental European average. In other words, they are the palest Europeans. Amongst them, it’s the Irish and Scottish who are lightest, with the Irish slightly edging the Scottish in that respect. The Irish are slightly edging the Scottish in the frequency of reddish hair as well. The difference between the Irish and Scottish is small by the way. Thus calling these people Mediterranean is linked to ignorance. Since Mediterraneans have the darkest complexion in Europe. While Irish ratio of pale or very fair skin (type 1/2) is at least twice the Northern European average.

Careful! I didn’t say that all Russians are Mongols. All I said that some Russians look like a Caucasoid - Mongoloid mixture. Some others look like a mixture of Caucasoid - Siberian mixture, while others look like a mixture of European - Iranian admixture and so on. Russia is the largest European country and thus show much more diversity than our neighbors the Irish who are probably the most NW European people in the world. In terms of blondness, NW European Russians for sure are blonder - haired than the Irish, but not the whole of Russia. Ireland on the other hand has the highest frequency for red hair and freckling in the world. You know Scandinavians are blonder-haired than the Irish, but they aren’t paler or lighter - eyed.

Yeah, most of the time there is just a 'unique' English look. Interesting how such a 'mix' (Anglo-Saxon, 'British' and Gaullish) creates such a 'homogeneous' look.

The Anglo-Saxons who created England («*Angle - land*») were a Germanic people to begin with. To this day, the most common male lineage amongst the English is R1b - U106 which differs from the R1b - L21 most common in Ireland, Wales, Scottish Highlands. The Anglo - Saxons eventually interbred with the indigenous Britonnic people but made sure of their dominance. The same R1b - U106 is frequent in the Netherlands and Denmark.
