There was no need to even see the spoiler with the distances to modern populations; just seeing the PCA was enough to see it.

It's a model that, like all models, can be interpreted in a certain way.

What I have said does not want "discredit" the model, it merely pretends to clarify what the references labeled as "Vikings" actually are.

And this model does not end up showing any hypothetical Viking percentage, but rather a Balto-Slavic one, and more specifically a modern one.

About using "all the Viking samples together"...we have a bit of everything among those "Viking" individuals:

These would be the averages of both, I think these two averages would be more in line with the reality of what those ancient cultural groups might have been like.

And I think that simply an average of only early Swedish Vikings, and maybe also early Norwegians and Viking Danes, would be even more in line with reality.

Over time, the populations mixed so much that they eventually became more similar to the indigenous populations than to those that emerged from the Viking core. Therefore, I'm not saying the samples used by the OP weren't Viking, only that they aren't representative of what we might call an ideal "Viking reference."

The same applies to Romans, Goths, Scythians, etc...

Sorry again for derailing the thread, but using the initial references it's like using Visigoths from Granada as a Goth references, who looks more like a modern Canary Islander than a Germanic.
