Crap. My sister and I had recently been told by our mother that her mother has a genetic mutation known as the Prothrombin Mutation (a.k.a Factor II). People who have it are genetically predisposed to DVT, PE, and other issues regarding blood clots. It's found most commonly in people of European descent. So, my mother and my sister went for blood work and they both tested positive for the mutation. I'm going in to be tested next week.
I thought I'd share this little bit of information for those of you who have interests in genetic predispositions to medical conditions.

Well, don't put TOO much emphasis on the results. New research in epigenetics is showing that environmental factors are much more important in the development of disease than genetic predispositions. Essentially, markers can be "muted" in a sense by lifestyle, fetal environment and even inherited factors from the previous generation.

Thank you. That's definitely true. I exercise regularly, do not smoke, do not take hormonal birth control, and will be starting iron supplements. So that should help safeguard me a bit. My grandmother is a seamstress, so has spent much of her life at a sewing machine, sitting down. That type of sedentary lifestyle in and of itself can cause DVT.

I heard that is not healthy to stay too much without moving if you have such a predisposition, that means you should make some movement, while you stay at computer.
This shows again that hebrews are european population not semitic population.
Hg J2 is closely related to Hg I2 and is very present in european populations, except in hebrews.
(more exactly greeks, cypriots, georgians at pretty high percentage;at significant percentage in south-eastern europeans not mentioned above and italians).

I try to never spend any hour without getting up and stretching at least a little. Exercise is very important to me. I go running at least three times each week, and walk for half an hour on days when I do not run.
I consider myself European. As far back as my family has been traced, everyone has been from Europe.

One does not have to live a sedentary lifestyle to get DVT, even though it helps. If the female side of the family is predisposed to get it, take extra precautions when flying. It's a known fact that since Airlines banned smoking on planes a few years ago, less oxygen is pumped through the cabin and so there's been a rise in DVT cases.
