Default FTDNA: question for all the genetics whizzkids!

I'm thinking of going with FTDNA because 23andme don't ship to South Africa.

I've been looking at the various tests.

The mtDNA-Plus is the cheapest at $159.

There are also the full sequence and family finder.

What do you recommend? Is the normal mtDNA-Plus okay?

I'm no whiz kid as it were however concerning the mtDNA tests, I believe it comes down to what you can afford right now. I was fortunate enough to have been able to afford the mtFullSequence up front, thus eliminating the need for a further mtDNA test.

The mtDNA Plus will give you your basic mtDNA info and serves many well. What are you looking for in getting a test? Are you a 'junkie' like me lol and want to know it all, so to speak?

If you are looking for cousins etc than the Family Finder + mtDNA is the way to go, then if you have good matches you could then go ahead and upgrade to the mtFullSequence test.
