In France, Spanish is widely studied at all levels of secondary school and in a smaller percentage of primary schools. In higher education, the situation depends on the particular offerings of each school and university.
In the last three years there has been a steady increase in the number of students studying Spanish in the French education system reaching in the 2016/2017 academic year the figure of 3,255,042 students (latest available statistical data). These students study Spanish as a foreign language 1, 2 or 3 (langue vivante 1, 2, 3) and are served by over 25,000 Spanish teachers.... The growing demand for Spanish has been reinforced by the interest of a community of more than 500 million speakers, with great economic and cultural possibilities in America and, in particular, in the USA.
