Why does South Asia get such a free pass compared to the Middle East?

Although mysogyny, repression and superstition may be less state-sanctioned in South Asia than in the Middle East, when it comes to things like acid attacks, domestic violence and rape, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are considerably worse than most Middle Eastern countries. India especially is over-praised in the West, called the "world's largest democracy" etc. etc., despite the fact that the army and police there are barely if at all less brutal than in "totalitarian" China, and even in gender-apartheid Saudi Arabia women can walk around much more safely than in much of India.

Dont know where you read your news but India is hardly praised or looked at in a positive light by majority of western newspapers or in the eyes of the western population. Most people in the west think of India as the rape capital of the world due to biased representation and misleading statistics.

Muslims are defended all the time in our news in europe, meanwhile most europeans dont know much about indians and we are relatively few here so nobody cares if someone insults indians, and liberals dont really like us since we dont fit their victimhood narrative due to our economical success all over the world unlike women, blacks and muslims who are all protected since they are overall perceived as victims.

India gets a free pass by politicians because it is a ally of the west in that region. Saudi Arabia also gets a free pass. Also I dont know what you mean with "free pass" should they give sanctions to india or what should they do? In society india is not looked positive.

It is only in some circles, mostly Western liberals like to praise India because it's a democracy. Also, new agey White people like yoga and all the spiritual stuff, and often go to India on hippy trips to find themselves. Plus, most Indian immigrants to the US are productive and many are smart engineers, so their image isn't bad. Of course, images of India itself to the general public is one of a dirty, backward and poor country so I would say the image overall is balanced in that way.
