The vehement opposition I saw all around me to the Cuban regime - petitions against Raul Castro, books and posters critical of the regime - reminded me of the controversy generated by another small country whose impact on global politics has been grossly disproportionate, which is surrounded by hostile neighbours and whose policies both internally and externally polarise people like few other countries or issues. Namely, Israel.
