Well Albanians are even closer to Greeks too and they claim Illyrian origin...
However we still need a lot of Iron Age samples from the Balkans presumably from every corner of the Balkans so we can figure it out what were the ancient populations of the Balkans genetically like.
Bronze Age is too far away and I don't think that the Iron Age populations of the Balkans like Macedonians, Thracians, Illyrians, Ancient Greeks didn't change much from the Bronze Age on...
Basically, we need samples from 8th century BC to 3rd century BC, right before the Roman invasion.
The only such sample as far as I am aware of, with good quality is the Iron Age Thracian from Bulgaria!
And as that sample is quite close to Sicilians and Tuscans, is generally safe to assume that the Macedonians were also like that!
