You'd be right. There's a mix in Tel Aviv, I don't know where the hell aherne went. Most in fact are Ashkenazim one might argue.

Jerusalem is also a mix but again one might argue that most are Mizrahim, although the Hassidic Ashkenazi super inbred people are numerous and more commonly blonde and European looking than any other group.

Israel is the only country where white people are the religious zealous (haredim) and the Middle Eastern people more secular.

Not entirely accurate. There are still Middle Eastern Religious Zealots even if some of them are not Haredim per se. And, on average, "white people" (Ashkenazim) are more Secular and left wing voting on average than Mizrahim.

Your impression is correct: in Tel Aviv, people were very friendly and helpful. In Jerusalem, they looked the other way when you asked them for directions (claiming they don't know English). One has to remember latter harbors a majority of highly religious people (equivalent to members of Christian fundamentalist sects). But there may be another reason: the less Judaean you look, the more you need to prove by behavior you are "just like everyone". Obviously, when someone sees a blond blue eyed individual, instinctive reaction of anyone else is to question if he's really a Jew after all...
