Similary dark yeah but Bulgars look more eastern like swarthy East Slavs or something. Also they were under Russian domination for some time so this question is very interesting if you think about it

Please don't speak about swarthiness. Croats aren't particularly lighter than Bulgarians..

Croatia as a country is obviously whiter because it lacks Gypsy minority and have plenty of Germano Slavic recent admixture

Pontids are not unusual in western Balkan, including Montenegro.
I think Bulgarians are closer to mostly south Slavs than to Russians.

Half of Europe was under Russian domination at that time and there was cultural exchange between all Warsaw pact countries. One of the few good things about that time was that the gypsy yugoslav culture and singers were banned.
