He looks Mongoloid-Turanid influenced in the eye region but I don't sense anything recent ''Tatar like'' - he looks like typical, average Romanian - would fit well also as Ukrainian and Hungarian. As a child he was more ambiguous-chinky looking it seems. Can't pass as Polish (not only because of said element but because of whole combination of his features which look alien).

You can have pseudo-Turan look without obvious Asian admixture. Adaptation to nomadic lifestyle in the past could be the reason.
